Creating Website Content

Creating website content is really the heart and soul of any website. A website without great content is like a fish out of water. What people are looking for online is information and people usually have some problem that they are looking for a solution for. When your website provides that information people will begin to trust you. Trust is the best way to build a business. When your clients/readers/business prospects find the info that they are looking for they start to think:

Hey - this person knows what they are talking about.

No matter what the goal of your website - to get new clients, sell a product or to just provide info, it is Content that will drive it to success.

When you know how to write content that people are looking for, it also makes the search engines happy which means better chances of getting your website found in the search engines. So content is loved by both the reader and the search engines. The search engines depend on content. The thing is that you have to know how to put it all together in a website.

The first step is learning to research keywords on the topic that you want to create a webpage on. SBI! does this all for you but you can do it some on your own. (See my section on keyword research). When you take the time to learn about keywords and how to use them in your pages and website it will help in all aspects of making a successful website.

Then it is a matter of using the keywords strategically throughout the webpage and in the metatags of the page. The metatags are a hidden part of the website that tells search engines what is on your page. It is often part of the little blurb that shows up for the website when you do searches.

The other big thing to have on your website is an xml sitemap. This is a special file that will tell the search engines when you have updated your site or added a new page. It announces the new content to your rss feed followers. Rss is really a crazy thing to understand. I finally just figured out that it is just the best way to get your content out there to people. You can see my rss feed on the home page of this website on the bottom left hand side and read more about how to follow this site's feed and find a feed reader if you don't already have one. Using it will really be the best way to see what it does. Just think of it as the way to get the content to the people!

On any website, the more content you can create, the better the results you will get. Like for my massage business site - www.massageseattle.net - I create content as often as I can. I write about all of the things that I talk about with people anyways on the phone or in sessions. When people see all that content on my website they start to see me as the expert- and of course I am! They will see you as the expert too when you start writing content.

But I can already hear you sighing saying/thinking "I can't write". Wrong! Anyone who can talk can write. Writing online isn't technical writing. Sure spelling and grammar can count but in general you are writing for an audience who has the attention span of a 7th grader. People scan and read fast online. The best way to write online is to just write the way you would talk to someone in person. It is about connecting to what is in your heart. It is about connecting with people online. It is about finding your unique writing style!

So when you are thinking you just are not a writer - I challenge you to start taking a deeper look at where that idea/belief comes from. Often it is from an earlier part of your life when you were told you weren't good enough or smart enough.

I never had any formal writing training. I started out really bad. I just kept at it. It is just like anything else in life - you have to practice.

So creating website content is really about developing a relationship of trust and connection. Build trust and you can't go wrong in any kind of website - for your health care business, writing and selling an ebook, selling other people's products - whatever the website is for -Content is King!
