Steps to Write a Book - How to Write a Non- Fiction Book!

The Steps to Write a book are outlined here but as with anything writing a book is really a process that evolves through practice and publishing.

Anyone can write a book today with the many recent developments in the book publishing world.

  • Decide on a book topic. Basically you can take just about anything and make it into a book these days. I recommend that you write a book based on your own interest and passions. You can also hire someone to write the book for you but that takes most of the fun out of it! One of the things I recommend that you do is to research your interests and find a topic that others are also interested in. Since you will need a website to promote your book, you can start with Site Build it! (SBI!) and their niche research tool that will help you in analyzing what is out there already in your area of interest and how popular the topic is.

  • Create an outline for your book to start organizing your thoughts.

  • Don't worry about a title. It will come to you as you write or you may have a few in mind already. The title is what will help you sell books so think about it carefully.

  • Write an introduction to your book. The introduction is really what will help sell your book. It will help create interest in your book so make it compelling. The first paragraph should talk about why you are writing the book. Your book should be offering a solution to a problem if it is non-fiction. Talk about the challenges that your audience might be having and your experience with the situation or how you came to write about this topic. You need to create a hook for people to keep them reading. You will need to convey why they should buy the book. You can also add your personal comments to make it more real for people.

  • Writing a book can be as easy as talking to someone in person. Just write the way you would as if you were talking to someone with the situation or issue that you are writing about. You can have it edited later! Don't worry about your writing style or grammar or those pesky little things yet. Just write!

  • Set up a regular writing routine to help you stay focused. Writing can get overwhelming so just try doing it in little steps.

  • Read what you write! Read your book outloud to yourself! This is one of the most important steps in organizing and putting your book together. It will help you formulate the chapters and put the information together.

  • A good length to start with is about 9-15 chapters.

  • Find an Editor and Proof Reader. Make your book sing!

  • Read and learn everything you can about self publishing through Print on Demand.

  • You will need someone to help you layout the book for publishing. You will need to have someone do the interior of the book or learn to do it yourself. You will need a cover design and an ISBN for your book. You can start looking for someone to help you do just that.
